Here we have some adventurously experimental/progressive music that features a wide variety of guests and therefore a wide variety of sounds. Made by the drummer half of Mats/Morgan, it has a bit of a percussive flavor with lots of unpredictable beats.
Favorite track: Yläjärvi.
I have been releasing albums on my own label since 1996. Mainly Mats/Morgan albums but also side projects such as Fredrik Thordendal (of Meshuggah) and his classic solo album "Sol Niger Within", Jimmy Ågren, Denny Walley etc. Batterie Deluxe is however my first solo album.
It features great guest spots by MATS ÖBERG, JIMMY ÅGREN, DEVIN TOWNSEND, FREDRIK THORDENDAL, NEYVELI RADHAKRISHNA, TINA AHLIN, MAMADOU SENE and SIMON STEENSLAND.
Words from the physical booklet here;
How much time is reasonable to spend filtering a bass drum sound?
Fifteen minutes or maybe 10 hours all in total? Can you do this work right after watching the news about all the horrible things that are happening around the world? And do you see and hear channel strips from Pro Tools in your head while going to sleep? I do sometimes... My neighbours don’t. Being a musician is a different life for sure. But I devoted my life to music, and I knew what I wanted to do from an early age. I am happy that I followed my instinct and wasn’t stopped by my parents (or my wife for that matter)…because music has given me uncountable memorable moments, and made me very “rich” in an important sense. Moments you can’t buy for money. And all of these people throughout the years... To see an expression on someone’s face after a concert—where they look like they just came off a roller coaster ride or had a religious experience…just smiling big time—that's a wonderful and important moment. But not in the “yes, please, tell me how good and skilled I am” kind of way. I'm talking about moments when music opens up people’s minds and lifts spirits to a higher level—beyond what other things in life can normally do. I know what impact music had in my life while I grew up, and still does today. If I can give someone else a little bit of that magic that music had and has for me, it's all worth it.
Today I have an adorable family, and they are more important to me than anything else. Still, music gets all the rest of my attention that I can spare. Now, besides the philosophical dilemmas described above, you can also question how much time can be spent on something that doesn’t necessarily give you a stable income? I've never worried that much, even though sometimes I perhaps should have. But things have been very good lately I must say. As a result, here is yet another one.… It took me a long time to finish, but now I am happy with the result, which is nice because this is my first solo album.
Snare roll…. Here comes Batterie Deluxe!
Hope you like it.
